Scholarship Opportunity
What Is It?
The Arkansas Teacher Academy Scholarship, according to the LEARNS Act (Act 237), provides up to $6,000 per semester for students enrolled in a post-secondary institution in a degree program that leads to teacher licensure. The scholarship is aimed at enhancing teacher education, enrollment, development and placement. These scholarship funds can only be applied to tuition and mandatory fees. Scholarships shall be distributed only after all other financial gifts, financial aid, and grants have been received by an eligible student enrolled at the University of Arkansas.
What Is the Payback?
For every year or partial year that the qualifying student receives funding, they are required to teach a year in an Arkansas public school or the scholarship will need to be paid back by the student.
Who Is Eligible?
Graduate and undergraduate students who are:
- Accepted to and enrolled in a U of A teacher education program that leads to a teacher license.
- Registered with the Razorback Educator Development Hub. Contact the RED Hub at teach-ed@uark.edu if you are unsure if you are an eligible U of A student.
How Does an Eligible Student Apply?
To apply for the 2024-2025 school year, you need to act soon. The application deadline is Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024.
To apply for this scholarship, please access the through the Scholarship Application Management System (SAMS) portal.
- Click on “Search for Scholarships.”
- Proceed through the questionnaire.
Make sure that on the question, "Have you been accepted to the Arkansas Teacher Academy?"
that "Yes" is selected.
- By selecting YES to that question, students will have an application for this scholarship created.
- For students who have already applied for other scholarships, they can open their account and just below the summary of the scholarships they have already applied for/received, and click the search for more scholarships. When students select that button, they are prompted through the series of questions again and they will select "Yes" on the Arkansas Teacher Academy question.
